Patient Online Programme

The NHS has an ambition to embrace technology as part of its drive to offer modern, convenient and responsive services to patients, their families and carers. The Patient Online Programme has been developed in order to enable GP Practices to provide online services which are linked to the patient's medical records held by the GP

Online services are being offered in addition to the traditional telephone and face-to-face means of interacting with a GP practice. Patients can choose the route they prefer

Accessing online services

The Practice does not supply online facilities; it acts as a 'gate' which allows online facilities to be authenticated and linked to patient records, and which controls access to patient information

Every GP clinical system supplier, must also provide online services. The Practice uses a clinical system provided by EMIS, and their online facility is called Patient Access

In order to provide patients with greater choice, other NHS approved system suppliers are also developing online facilities. A list of suppliers can be found on the GP online services pages of the NHS Choices website

Online facilites are, in most cases, accessed either via a web browser, or by using a dedicated app on mobile devices

Available facilities

When you sign up for Online Patient Services you will be able to:

  • send a message to the Practice
  • update your address & contact details
You will also be asked to choose whether you want access to the following facilities:
  • managing appointments

  • viewing your medical record

Should you opt to have access to your medical record when signing up for Online Patient Services, the Practice will provide access to the following information:

  • current medication
  • allergies
  • immunisations
The Practice can also make the following types of information available:
  • test results
  • documents
