Cervical Screening

Lawful basis for sharing data

This will be updated soon

04/05/18

Patient data cannot be withheld
Patients can choose to 'opt-out' of the screening programme

The Cervical Screening Programme (CSP) is a national programme, which is managed by Primary Care Support England, who are responsible for the call / recall of patients

The information we share

The CSP receives data from the NHS regarding patients who are due cervical smears. When a patient is due to have a smear the CSP notifies the Practice, who can update the CSP system with information regarding the patient's eligibility for screening:

  • whether a patient has had a particular type of hysterectomy; which means that they are no longer eligible for cervical screening
  • whether a patient is pregnant; which means that they are not currently eligible for cervical screening, and their recall will be postponed

You have a choice

You can choose to postpone having cervical screening for up to 3 or 5 years (depending on age), and information will not be requested from the Practice during this period, or you can request to be removed from the CSP indefinitely
